White Street Landfill Flashback II: Should the proponents of keeping the landfill closed justify the costs?
"Greensboro could save about $100 million over the next 25 years by using the White Street Landfill according to an independent analyst...

if the City of Greensboro refuses to release basic financial information to the public?

...The consultant reminded the City Council that when the city operated the landfill that the city charged private haulers for dumping their garbage at the landfill, but the city trucks were not charged because the fees from the private haulers covered the cost of operating the landfill.

Why would Mr. Perkins put his personal political interests
above those of the majority of Greensboro taxpayers and their children?
One former city council member, who was asked about the landfill operation before the meeting, remembered the landfill fund balance was a place the council went when it needed money because the landfill operated at a considerable profit.

Did Robbie Perkins get a sweet heart deal on this property from Roy Carroll? Will we see any reporting from out local journalist?

The rumor had gained such strong currency that at-large Councilman Robbie Perkins joked when redistricting came up for discussion at the council’s Feb. 15 meeting: “I nominate Bill Burckley to fill that role.”
According to rumor, Burckley drew up the 2008 redistricting plan, and handed it off to Wade; Wade passed it on to Matheny; and Matheny claimed ownership of the plan and presented it to council, which approved it by a narrow majority.

Duke Power Has Rate Hike Meeting in Downtown High Point During Furniture Market , Are You Kidding Me?

Duke Power has a scheduled meeting in downtown High Point on Oct. 27, 2011, at 7 p.m., High Point City Hall, Council Chambers, 211 South Hamilton St. for meetings in regards to new rate hikes for the citizens of this state. Who is the numb nut who planned a meeting during the only time in downtown High Point where you will not be able to find a parking space anywhere and you also have roads closed all over the place because of the High Point Furniture Market. This must have been a good plan by Duke Power to have this meeting during the most inopportune time you could ever have in the Triad area of N.C. to have a meeting of this importance to residents all over this area.
Of all the places to have this meeting Duke Power had to pick High Point City Hall, we will see how many people will attend this meeting especially when parking in High Point at this time is very hard to come by . This meeting is on the tail end of market but the surrounding area of City Hall is very hard to find a parking space. They should of had this meeting in Jamestown at the GTCC campus if they needed a venue that will not be in conflict with a huge event surrounding the City Hall of High Point.Thanks Duke Power on making this meeting at the worse possible.

Diving Championship will Bring a Whole $8 Dollars for Greensboro
Press release from the Greensboro Coliseum had this to say:
"The Greensboro Area Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates the AT&T National Diving Championships and Junior National and Age Group Championships will generate more than $8 in economic impact."
Wow, a whole $8 will be made from the diving championship. I know Henri Fourrier forgot to put a M by the 8 to mean million but seeing this is pretty funny. Hopefully there will be a correction on this.

During the Greensboro City Council meeting on 1-4-2011, at the end of the agenda when each council member gets time to talk about anything they wish to, Councilman Zack Matheny invited everyone to come to some family events that were going on at the Greensboro Coliseum.
In the above embedded clip, Zach talks of if attending the Ringling Brothers Circus, then "ALL NON CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE TICKETS TO THIS EVENT".
Why did Zack Matheny have this to say about the circus?
It is because when Danny Thompson first was elected to council during their meeting last year, he said the following in the embedded clip.

When we see Roy Carroll wanting this $4 million dollars in bond money we also need to be reminded as to who is Roy Carroll's leasing agent for plenty of these endeavors all over Greensboro from properties on elm street near the Super Wal Mart to the Center Pointe building downtown to the property off of Horse Pen Creek Road it is none other than NAI Piedmont Triad Commercial properties president and partner along with being a sitting Greensboro Council member and mayoral candidate Robbie Perkins.
Just this past week Triadwatch had a post where the $4 million in bond money for Roy Carroll was taken off the Greensboro City Council for the second time CLICKHERE but then in the Triad Business Journal article they are saying that it might be brought up next month making this the third time they want to bring this up to the Greensboro City Council. Mark my word that this proposal to give developer Roy Carroll over $4 million dollars in this bond money has been shopped around to all the sitting Greensboro City Council members and knew that Roy Carroll didn't have the votes for this to pass and you see how they have delayed this for the past few Greensboro City Council meetings and if we see this agenda item back up again in front of council it was already approved by a majority of council members before it ever made it to the agenda.
Anytime you see Roy Carroll doing business in front of council remember who his leasing agent is in Robbie Perkins.
It would be interesting to see if any local media outlet will do any investigative reporting to see just how close this relationship is because we already have Robbie Perkins texting him from council chambers all the way to China with this post titled "Greensboro City Council Member Robbie Perkins Text Messages to developer Roy Carroll during council meetings, any Ethical Questions? …those powerful individuals who have failed, been passed over by technological advancements, innovation and flat-out smarts, have commandeered our government to unfairly sustain their wealth and power.
Unfortunately, they use our wealth and laws…, but also spend a small pittance of their ill-gotten gains lobbying and favor-trading with politicians so the government will continue to protect them from competition and their well-deserved failure.
The massive spike in unemployment, the utter destruction of retirement wealth, the collapse in the value of our homes, the worst recession since the Great Depression have all resulted directly from the abdication of proper government.
Even with all that -- the only changes that have been made, have been made to prop up and hide the massive flaws on behalf of those who perpetuated them. Still utterly nothing has been done to disclose the flaws in this system, improve it or rebuild it. Only true rules-based capitalism ensures constant adaptation and implementation of the latest and best practices for a given business, as those businesses that don't adapt fail and those who deploy the latest innovations to their customers benefit, prosper.
The concept of Communism is rightly reviled in this country for the simple reason that it is blind to human nature, allowing a small group of individuals near-total control, while sticking everyone else with the same crappy systems -- and the bill. America spent countless lives and half a century fighting against this system of government...so why are we standing for it now?

The below the fold blog post was from last month where you will see a agenda item being postponed till next month which is now. We see in this week's current agenda with attachments for the City of Greensboro where item #20 had this to say in BOLD WORDS
Resolution authorizing Economic Development Incentive Grant and Loan, not to exceed the amnount of $4,176,775 in total, to Land Port Investments, LLC. to be funded by appropriating up to $4,176,775 of voter approved Economic Development Bond funds. (no attachment) This item was postponed from the 9/13 meeting of Council without further advertising. COUNCIL IS BEING REQUESTED TO REMOVE THE ITEM FROM THE AGENDA TO BE READVERTISED FOR A PUBLIC HEARING AT A LATER DATE.
There are so many angles to look at this situation and the most obvious is to wonder if we will see as reported below the fold our local Crony Capitalist Roy Carroll will give campaign money to plenty of our local elected officials and some who are vying for a seat in the upcoming eleactions knowing that this item has been brought up in front of the Greensboro City Council last month and now will get readvertised at a later date probably once the new Greensboro City Council gets sworn in.
It is not illegal to give campaign contributions to local elected officials even when you have business in front of the city but it sure is unethical to see this happening on a local level. We should have a rule that if you do business with the city or have contracts with the city or county then you will be barred from any contributions for a 2 year period before and after the item comes in front of the elected officials.
Will we see the local Greensboro News and Record do any reporting of this situation?
Do situations like this right before a municipal election raise questions?
Could we see any new laws barring campaign contributions from people who have business with local municipalities?
We will see where this goes but it is interesting to see them after a month take this item off the agenda for good and hopefully not put any more money in local developer Roy Carroll's pockets.
