Did Guilford County's commissioners know they gave Robbie Perkins a sweet tax break?

VII. PUBLIC HEARINGS

1. Held Public Hearing on the Guilford County
Commercial Investment Policy and approved the following actions:

a.) Approved a commercial investment grant for Granite Church Street, LLC

...The investment grant for this project based upon applicant’s information
is estimated to be $41,504 per year (an estimated total of $124,504 for three years).

...Betty Garrett, Interim Planning Director,...said the projected real investment for the project
...anticipated new job creation of 164.

Proponent Chester Brown...said construction began in October 2009
and completion is estimated for August 2010 and urged the Board to support the request.

...Chairman Alston made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Cashion
on to approve the request.

Commissioner Gibson ...said the number of jobs has decreased significantly
from the original request...

Commissioner Gibson said he does not think the commercial investment policy
will benefit small businesses and he will not be supportive of the request.

...VOTE: Motion carried 8 to 2.
AYES: Commissioners Alston, Arnold, Cashion, Davis, Parks, Gibson, Shaw, Yow.
NOES: Commissioner Perkins and Coleman.
ABSTAINED: None.
ABSENT: Commissioner Winstead.
