Greensboro News & Record's John Robinson and triadwatch (Keith Brown): "Money talks" - What is a bribe?

...ACC officials and coaches got some unwanted attention
because they showed up at Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl soirees.

You'd think they'd know there's no free lunch...

Greensboro News & Record's Editor

"Why don't the news and record talk about your own local elected officials
not paying their way into getting front row seats to acc tournament
or if local elected officials actually paid to go cause matheny said he went,
Rakestraw was seen in pictures in rhino being there,
perkins was front row team host, Vaughan was there.

You have local elected officials getting free tickets to circus
and you don' t give a rats ass
but we also know that news and record
is also on the bartering bandwagon with local government
but we all know you won't report squat about your golden child in Matt brown..."

triadwatch

...It's easy to make the case that city officials
ought to be entitled to free access to events at a city arena.

I'm not going to make it, but I also don't think it is that big of a deal.

So, we disagree.

We have also discussed here before what the N&R gets from and what it gives to the Coliseum...

...The news department does not have access to any freebies from the Coliseum
and it doesn't affect our reporting on the Coliseum's operations or on Matt Brown.

John Robinson

"...you think local elected officials are entitled to free access to events like the acc tournament
or bruce springsteen or any other event at the coliseum.

Do you not understand that local elected officials vote on plenty of items in regards to the coliseum?

This is a complete conflict of interest for any local elected official to accept free tickets to the coliseum
at the same time voting millions of dollars to reroute a aquatic center from the city to matt brown's fiefdom."

triadwatch

What I said: "It's easy to make the case that city officials ought to be entitled
to free access to events at a city arena.

I'm not going to make it, but I also don't think it is that big of a deal."

John Robinson

What is the difference between free tickets and bribes?

Could elected officials be more inclined to vote for what the city doesn't need,
if the beneficiary provides free anything to those elected by everyone else to vote?

If an "insider" gets free stuff that should have been paid for,
how is that not stealing from the electorate?
