HAT TIP : LEGAL NOTICE BLOG
TIMES PICAYUNE COULD LOSE LEGAL NOTICE REVENUE BY REDUCING
PUBLICATION FREQUENCY.
----------------------------------------------
After our post yesterday
http://legal-notice.org/blog/picayune-issue-what-happens-legal-notices-destined-daily-newspapers-new-orleans ,
we thought "how come legal-notice is the only blogger covering the all
important legal notice angle of the Times Picayune story?" . Just when we
thought that we had missed the story, Nola.com , the Times Picayune's web
site, justified our news judgment. According to the story
http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2012/05/times-picayune_announcement_pr.html State
law will have to be changed quickly to either:
* allow legal notices to be published in a non-daily paper
* allow the government to post notices on line
* allow other publications to compete for the right to publish notices in
print.
Unfortunately for the rest of the newspaper world still clinging to legal
notices, the Times Picayune's publishing schedule reduction has re-opened the
debate to move notices on line.
One reader comment on the story:
/"Just repeal this antiquated law, that only exists to line the fat pockets
of greedy publishers who don't think New Orleans is worthy of a daily
newspaper."/
