Amanda: "Mr. Perkins goes to Washington"

"Mayor Robbie Perkins took his first lobbying trip to our nation's capital last week.

He had two jam-packed days of meetings with staff members from the local federal delegation, the governor's D.C. representative, and staff for the DOJ and DOT.

The trip was arranged by the city's brand new lobbyist.

Who Robbie has known since our lobbyist was six
and whose parents donated to Robbie's campaign?

It's a switch in strategy from the last city council,
which said it wasn't worth the city's money to pay a lobbyist.

The meetings were unobtainable until now?

Isn't Denise a former lobbyist?

Who was in charge of these things before?

Perkins said he spent him talking up the aerotropolis concept
and the joint nanotech school.

Near some prime properties for sale?

He said he is confident the city has a strategy
to "bring money home from Washington."

For whom?

"We are long overdue
in putting together a lobbying strategy in Washington," Perkins said.

What was who doing before the lobbyist?

Isn't Howard Coble, Brad Miller, Kay Hagan and Dick Burr
supposed to be doing that?

"They’re spending lots of money in Washington all of the time.

Spending borrowed money?

There are places that have programs
that could help us achieve some of our community’s goals."

Amanda

If the Greensboro Partnership is contributing $25,000 for the lobbyist,
and Robbie and friends are the Greensboro Partnership,
who is lobbying for what from whom
for the benefit of who?

"We are long overdue in putting together a lobbying strategy in Washington," Perkins said. "They’re spending lots of money in Washington all of the time. Translation: the local tax level is not enough to allow the achievement of some vision of a few self appointed quasi-intellectuals [the plans of the few vs. the plans of the many ala F.A. Hayek].

Hence “long overdue” is the extraction of additional tax revenue, from local taxpayers [yes from local taxpayers], based on those taxes locals pay on a federal basis, as well as the extraction of additional tax from far flung taxpayers from all over the nation. The extraction is needed in order to acquire the taxpayer’s dollar to fund the “vision”. That is, Greensboro needs to act as an economic rent seeker, a special interest, a lobbyist of federal tax money.

One must take note of the politico framing, by one Mr. Perkins, of federal money being something the federal government merely has on hand and that the source of those funds are not related to you, the taxpayer, i.e. pixie dust dollars:

Perkins said. "They’re spending lots of money in Washington all of the time. There are places that have programs that could help us achieve some of our community’s goals."

What Mr. Perkins is advocating is a fallacy long ago pointed by Frederic Bastiat
(1801-1850) French economist:

“The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else.”
