Profound, for Jordan Green

If you are young and not liberal, then you have no heart;
but if you are old and not conservative, then you have no brain.

I thought this statement was first uttered by Winston Churchill.

But seriously, on a daily basis the political values that sustain my labor have to do with shoring up the economic value of assets, property and institutions that are the backbone of the broad middle class, improving interracial understanding and being a good steward of the environment.

I guess some of this is in the eye of the beholder, but these seem like pretty conservative impulses to me. No grand ideals or ambitious programs; in fact, to the contrary, these interests seem related to maintaining something of the status quo in the face of radical efforts to reconstruct it.

On Guarino's blog, you expressed faith that my understanding of reality would change when I had to worry about my children's future.

Who can afford to have children these days? Maybe if I lived in a socialist nanny state like Sweden, where child rearing is subsidized by the state that would be a logical choice. As to the children's future, see the conservative values referenced above.
