"A bill that would reduce the number of Guilford County commissioners
will be heading to Gov. Bev Perdue's desk.
...The bill would reduce the number of county commissioners from 11 to nine.
...The News and Record reported the amended version of the bill came from a compromise
that allows county commissioners to redraw the districts
instead of the legislature redrawing them on their behalf.
Democratic Rep. Marcus Brandon, of High Point,
was the only Guilford County legislator to vote against the bill on Thursday.
The county has the most commissioners of any county in the state.
Mecklenburg County, the largest county in the state, has only nine commissioners.
Guilford County's board was expanded to 11 members in the early 1990s"
